The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has a bumper opening, surpassing the earlier record (Rs48.27 crore) held by Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan [2018].
Yash Raj Films’ big ticket action thriller Pathaan is off to a cracking start setting an opening day record for a Hindi film. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Pathaan [2023] has fetched a record Rs53-54 crore nett on its opening day, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The producer figure is pegged at Rs55 crore nett with a further Rs2 crore nett from the dubbed versions.
Pathaan has beaten the earlier record of Rs48.27 crore nett by Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan [2018] – both films are produced by YRF.
Made at an estimated budget of Rs250 crore, Pathaan is said to have released across 5450 screens (including dubbed Tamil/Telugu versions) in India.
Pathaan is said to have done well overseas, too, with the action thriller said to have grossed $4.5 million (approximately Rs36. crore) globabally.
Pathaan’s fantastic opening ends a long drought for Bollywood films at the boxoffice. Though the reviews are mixed, YRF will hope to better or equal the collection on day two on account of public holiday -Republic Day.
Pathaan has withstood agitation from fringe groups, #BoycottBollywood lot, had few things censored by CBFC, but the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has beaten all of it to give a bumper opening, It’s welcome news for Shah Rukh Khan, who has been struggling since Chennai Express [2013], his last certified box office success. It will hopefully end a long drought phase for Yash Raj Films, too, who hasn’t produced a hit since Tiger Zinda Hai [2017].
