However, the actress has been in the news recently after she suffered a heart attack. It was on March 2, 2023, when Sushmita informed everyone about suffering a heart attack while working on one of her assignments.

In an interview with ETimes, Sushmita Sen’s cardiologist, Dr Rajiv Bhagwat talked about the actress’ encounter with the heart attack at the age of 47. Opening up about the reason why women are also getting more prone to heart attacks like men in recent times, Rajiv explained how they’re working both in the office and at home, which is asking too much from them both mentally and physically. The cardiologist also admitted that in Sushmita Sen’s case, the actress was quite active physically and had a good fitness regime which played an important role. However, the doctor admitted that if Sushmita had been less physically active, then the heart attack could be life-threatening for her. He said:

“Yes. Her (Sushmita Sen) high physical activity indeed helped in ensuring that the damage was limited. This is the biggest message that has come out from Sushmita’s episode: Be physically active.”

Further, in the same interview, Dr Rajiv Bhagwat also stated that having 7 to 8 hours of sleep is a must for every working professional. The cardiologist highlighted the impact of stress and physical activities on our body and admitted that we don’t get enough sleep to our body so that our hormones and muscles can cool down properly. When the doctor was asked whether Sushmita had also ignored some warning signs, answering to this, Dr Rajiv Bhagwat stated that the actress was blessed to reach out to the hospital at the right time. Opening up about the same, he said:

“Difficult to say that, but let’s say: Sushmita is blessed that she came in at the right time and right place. A 7 to 8-hour sleep is a must before a gym, but certainly not just 2 or 3 hours. Gymming is not fashion, it should be a healthy activity.”

In the same interview, Dr Rajiv Bhagwat also talked about the way Sushmita Sen managed to keep the news of her heart attack completely low-key from the nose of the media. The doctor admitted that it was the right way to deal with the situation and hinted at how other celebrities should also keep medical emergencies like this low-key. The doctor also shared that people suffer from heart attacks mainly because of two reasons, lack of sleep and deficiency of Vitamin D. Dr Rajiv Bhagwat advised people to go out and spend some time in sunlight instead of consuming Vitamin D supplements. He said:

“Good, that’s how it should be. That’s the beauty of this episode. So it all went very peacefully. Lack of sleep and lack of Vitamin D are one of the two main other reasons why cases of diabetes are increasing so rapidly. And remember, supplementation of Vitamin D cannot reverse diabetes.”
