Samuthurakani, though not very menacing, plays a typical villain and has only few sequences to show his evilness. Technically the film is sound and GV Prakash’s music adds value to the film. Overall, Vaathi is a film that’s mounted on no-nonsense writing though it could have been even better.

Edutainment with its own hits and misses. Has quite a few exciting stretches but the engagement is on and off. Dhanush’s natural presence and GV Prakash’s rousing score add value.

At one moment, director Venky goes meta to say that even a cinema theatre can impart education if needed, and his noble message in the film is loud and clear. You only wish the screenplay was as sharp as the tip of Dhanush’s fountain pen and as swerved as his folded half-sleeves.

Films about the schooling system, its pros and cons have been played around with a lot right from the beginning, and there are many viewpoints already out in the open. Despite the familiarity, director Venky Atluri manages to pull off an engaging entertainer in Vaathi, a film which is driven by its emotional value and the moments that it etches in our heads. On the whole, Vaathi is a pretty good entertainer that has its flaws but still entertains. This is worth a watch in theatres!
