Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar releases this Friday and the way things stand right now; it should take an opening in the range of Rs. 12-13 crores. That should be a good start for the film considering that since the release of Ranbir Kapoor’s last release Brahmastra, only three Bollywood films have opened well – Drishyam 2 (Rs. 15.38 crores), Ram Setu (Rs. 15.25 crores) and then the mother of all biggies, Pathaan (Rs. 57 crores). Otherwise, no other Bollywood film has taken even a double digit start and that pretty much tells the tale.
Hence, the first task that the Luv Ranjan directed film has in hand is to take a double digit opening and if the advance booking is any indication then that has well been take care of. Post here, the next big milestone would be to break the Rs. 15 crores ceiling. Ideally, a film of this scale and stature should have set itself up for a Rs. 20 crores start but then audiences have become more and more picky and hence it’s better to be conservative rather than bullish. As a result, a first day number of over Rs. 15 crores would be quite good and that’s something which is on the cards as well. Anything more than that would be an added bonus for the film that also stars Boney Kapoor in a key role.
If this happens indeed then it would be more than double of what Luv Ranjan’s last directorial outing Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety had brought in the first day (Rs. 6.42 crores). In fact last year Bachchan Pandey too had managed to collect Rs. 13.25 crores on its first day despite huge wave of The Kashmir Files which had released just a week earlier and here Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is arriving solo with no major release before or after it. In terms of release strategy, everything is going in favour of the big budget rom-com from which Bollywood is having great expectations.
