Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan is currently gearing up for her upcoming project, Ae Watan Mere Watan that is helmed by Kannan Iyer. In a recent interview, Sara gave insights about her character and film.

Talking about her film Ae Watan Mere Watan, Sara told PTI, “In our film, there is a part where we call her a gumnaam nayak, an anonymous fighter because we don’t know her. She sacrificed so much, and you don’t know who she is, that stands according to me, as a huge tale of sacrifice, strength and bravery.”

She further added, “All this is prevalent in today’s times or any time. So, it was definitely challenging and exciting too.”

Sara, who graduated from Columbia University with a degree in history and political science, said the movie made her aware of the underappreciated freedom warrior. She said, “I am a history student so I know a decent amount about our freedom struggle, but I didn’t know about her. And I can imagine there are many people who don’t know about her.”

The thriller-drama is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment and directed by Kannan Iyer. Ae Watan Mere Watan is based on actual events and depicts the adventurous journey of a college student in Bombay who later becomes a freedom fighter against the backdrop of the 1942 Quit India Movement.

The movie, according to sources, is based on freedom fighter Usha Mehta, who was crucial in spreading information via radio throughout the nation during the Quit India Movement. In more than 240 countries and territories throughout the world, Ae Watan Mere Watan will make its Prime Video debut. The release date has not yet been declared by the creators.

Sara Ali Khan has a promising line-up of films in her kitty. She was last seen in Gaslight. In her pipeline, she has Laxman Utekar’s next untitled film, co-starring Vicky Kaushal. She is also a part of Homi Adajania’s next, titled Murder Mubarak.
