Rating Score -> 3.5/5

Kabir Khan loves to make feel good cinema and CC (Chandu Champion) falls into that category, too. Be it Salman Khan in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev in 83 or Kartik as Petkar, he extracts the best out of his mainstream actors. He loves to infuse humour, sports and earnestness into his stories, but he can dig deeper than that. There’s more focus on what happened to a person than their inner conflict.

Rating Score -> 4/5

Move over Vicky Kaushal’s “How’s the Josh?”, Kartik Aaryan’s dialogue “Chandu nahi, Champion hai main” from Kabir Khan’s latest directorial ‘Chandu Champion’ is here to win your hearts and fill you with myriads of emotions.

Rating Score -> 2.5/5

Kartik Aaryan goes full-tilt in Kabir Khan’s by-the-numbers biopic. Kartik Aaryan makes you root for his character even though Kabir Khan’s film falls into declarative, underlined patches.

Rating Score -> 4/5

Chandu Champion is a must-watch film. Kartik Aaryan in a never-seen avatar is a surprise to watch. Despite being a biopic, the film also gives a full dose of entertainment.

Rating Score -> 3.5/5

The ride from anonymity to applause feels rushed. And not surprisingly, both the eras are juxtaposed with a non-linear narrative. And as it happens with many sports dramas, before he achieves his one final moment of glory, the montage of his past plays out right in front of him that has to act as a reminder of how far he has come, and conquered. Just like Murlikant Petkar’s life, Chandu Champion is both ferocious and flawed.

Rating Score -> n/a

If you’ve liked and appreciated Bollywood’s love for sports dramas so far, you’d find Chandu Champion to be a beautiful addition to the genre that continues to tell us inspiring tales. And after the lukewarm response his 2021 film, Ranveer Singh-starrer ’83 received at the box office, Chandu Champion seems to be the perfect comeback for Kabir Khan as well as its hero Kartik Aaryan, who is in no mood to be typecast.

Rating Score -> 4/5

If you are a fan of emotional storytelling, cliches that tug at your heart, and a wholesome sports biopic where you root for the guy from the start till the very end without a hiccup, this movie might be the best 2 hours and 30 minutes you will spend this weekend. Stories like Murlikant Petkar’s need to be told and if that is coming from mainstream faces like Kabir Khan and Kartik Aaryan, it is a win for Bollywood.

Rating Score -> 4/5

But what elevates Chandu Champion from just another good film to a potentially great one is its push to the underdog champions and the simple message that the differently-abled are not looking for pity. The film shines a lens on the ‘bechara’ syndrome that the differently-abled have to deal with in our society and why even their best efforts are sometimes not given the recognition they deserve.
