Jigra is a barely decent watch. Vasan Bala hasn’t tapped into the actual potential of the story at hand. Rather than injecting sharp twists and suspense, the screenplay remains largely predictable and plain. Amidst the mediocrity, the heartfelt rendition of Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka provides a brief emotional lift.

Jigra offers Alia a lot of scope to create some solid moments. But most of the film feels like an exercise to cash in on her star power rather than create an interesting premise around her.

Vasan’s directorial is a heartfelt story of bravery, loyalty between siblings, and the sacrifices that love sometimes demands. Alia Bhatt’s sisterly love for Vedang Raina in the film can make you fall for the sibling love. The film has so much to offer than just thrilling action and family emotions.

Vasan Bala’s Jigra is an emotional saga which talks about sibling bonding and to what extent an elder sister can go to save the life of her little brother. A truly dedicated elder sister who is more like a mother and the only support system, Alia Bhatt has nailed the role of Satya with her brilliant craft.

Vasan Bala’s Jigra doesn’t really offer anything unique. A prison break thriller isn’t something we haven’t already seen before (think: Savi, which was released in May). The commentary on feminism could have been more nuanced than “tu mujhe Rakhi bandh ta hai toh main teri Raksha karungi”. Watch if you wish to see Alia Bhatt be all badass and beat up guys in an oversized shirt.

Alia exudes confidence in ‘Jigra.’ Having said that, the film’s hype isn’t anything compared to her previous film, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.’ Probably because of minimal promotion, the first-day show had sparse audience. It remains to be seen if this jailbreak movie will attract viewers to theaters.

Alia Bhatt film is a stretch of both patience and credulity. Alia Bhatt’s performances usually have at least a couple of distinctive notes. Here, badass replacing vulnerability, those edges are blunted. Jigra becomes a stretch, of both patience and credulity.

Jigra, to sum it up, is a well-made thriller, which though a bit predictable in parts, doesn’t let you down. Satya’s ‘jigra’ makes you wish you too were under her protection.
