Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video sounded like it would be a fun movie, because hello, can you hear the title? And honestly, it partly is. However, it is not the best, but passable as a one-time watch for many. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri in lead roles, the movie is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa. I watched it at a screening last night, and here’s my honest review.
You have your laughs, but not enough
The movie turns out to be as long as its title and while you find your moments of laughter, they fade away equally soon. The humour may be a fit for sketch comedies and so is the storyline. I sure had fun and laughs but they weren’t enough to keep me glued or stop my yawns.

With actors like Rajkummar, Triptii, and others, there’s so much to do, especially with a name like Raaj Shaandilyaa, you’d expect more. Without spoiling your fun, there’s also a horror comedy bit to it, and it pretty much falls flat (sadly).
Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri try
Rajkummar gave us Stree 2, and he’s now here, with a movie where he didn’t have much to do, except play this ‘gaon ka chora’ who pulls off a random act to marry his childhood love. Triptii doesn’t need to play the second fiddle anymore, and while she does have screen time, there’s just something missing here. However, she did remind me a little bit of her vibe in Laila Majnu while Raj reminded me of his vibe from Bareilly Ki Barfi (not comparing the movies, though)!
Everyone had their eyes on Mallika Sherawat and much like the film being 90s codes, her role is also that. However, you enjoy seeing her in the film. Vijay Raaz does his thing of being that funny character in every movie and he does it well too. Everyone in the supporting role has gotten their parts just fine, including Archana Puran Singh, and Tiku Talsania, among others.
Needed stronger messaging or solid humour
The movie had its flaws, and while on one hand, it laid out a message in the end, on the other, it had bits that just didn’t add up — be it showing Mallika’s character being a certain way, or how Vicky and Vidya’s mindset is much evolved than it would’ve ideally been.
The film felt like a sequence of shots clubbed together — with a uniform theme, of course. This is not to say that the film doesn’t work at all, but it doesn’t work completely.
Our verdict of ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’
The movie will find an audience in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, especially given the fact that it is set in the 90s. While the film deals with decently thoughtful messaging, this needed to be beyond that. The climax turns out to be too long but leaves you on a smiling note with the way it comes to a full circle. Should you go watch the movie, do it with an open mind and maybe, you will find your reasons to like it.
