Neeraj Pandey has written an intelligent story which keeps the audience engrossed completely because it prompts them to keep thinking and playing the guessing game. The screenplay, penned by Neeraj Pandey and Vipul K. Rawal, is not just engaging but it is also very interesting and all-consuming. The drama drops a bit at a couple of places but that happens for a few minutes each time, after which the viewers get sucked into it over again. The last half an hour is especially very engaging because a lot of revelations happen in that part. The duo’s dialogues are truly entertaining.On the whole, Sikandar Ka Muqaddar is a nice and intelligent entertainer and will find appreciation among the audience.

Being on OTT means you can junk big stars in the pursuit of good story-telling. Or that’s what it was supposed to mean, before the streamers also got sucked into vacuous starry propositions with zero results. ‘Sikandar Ka Muqadaar’, its title riffing off on one of Amitabh Bachchan’s late 70s blockbusters, is a solid example of how you can get a film going on the strength of plot and performance, with stars servicing the story, just the way it should be.

Sikandar Ka Muqaddar is smartly packaged. What it needed more of was novelty in the matter of what it crams into its bag of contrived tricks. The missing solitaires do inevitably show up, but neither the diamonds nor the subsequent twists that the stones trigger alter the fortunes of the flagging film.

All in all, this film is a good one-time watch. However, we just wished that it could rise above the limitations and be more taut to turn into a heist thriller rather than drama. Yet, given the film ends on a cliffhanger (quite literally), we can hope that a second part is in consideration and that the shortcomings will be worked on.
