Raveena Tandon Opens Up On Being Called ’90s Ke Kholo’ And ‘Thunder Thighs’ Due To This Reason

Bollywood actress, Raveena Tandon is known for her stunning fashion choices and notable works in the entertainment industry. However, she reveals how the 90s gossip magazines used to body-shame her, and with a turn of events, those women have already turned into ‘so-called feminists’. And getting intoxicated with such reports of the bygone eras, she had taken a sabbatical from her acting career post embracing motherhood. In an interview, Raveena opened up about the same. For the unversed, she made her acting debut in 1991 with the film, Patthar Ke Phool. Afterwards, she took a sabbatical in 2006, and in 2015, she made a comeback to Bollywood with the film, Bombay Velvet.

Raveena Tandon on being body-shammed by the women who turned into ‘so-called feminists’

In an interview with Smita Prakash, Raveena Tandon revealed how she was badly body-shamed by the women, who have now turned into big feminists. Further, she was also asked about the mean comments made on her, despite the actress being a quintessential symbol of sensuality during the ’90s. Then, jokingly mentioning that she can easily start telling stories about the gossip writers, Raveena said:

“90s gossip magazines were the worst. And some of those women, now I see, roaming around today carrying the women’s lib badge over their heads and hearts, who were the worst enemies of women, who body-shamed women, slut shamed women and would do everything possible to bring another woman down. Today they roam around being as biggest feminists, I wonder when did that happen? If I start telling stories about them….(chuckles).”

Raveena on being called “90s ke kholo, TTs, thunder thighs”

In the same conversation, Raveena revealed how she was only 16 and a half years old when she had started her film career. Thus, at that mere age, she was a chubby baby, and for that reason, she was titled with many names, including “90s ke kholo, TTs, thunder thighs”. She also claimed that the 90s editors used to ruin the heroines’ careers according to the hero’s wishes and added:

“No no, Please I was called a lot of things. 90s ke kholo, TTs, thunder thighs…miss this and miss that… I was plump actually. Started at 16 and a half years, and I was full of baby fat yaar… which still hasn’t gone. Though I don’t care now, I am being like that, I am like that, too bad! I remember some of these titles. And not only me, but some other heroines are also called that. Besides that, instead of supporting women, what they did was…firstly all these women editors would fall in love with the heroes. And what the heroes said were the last words. If he wanted to pan a woman, the woman would be panned, shamed, literally, her career ruined in the magazines with nasty articles being put out about her. ”

Raveen revealed how the 90s gossip writers used to clarify false things at that time

At the end of the conversation, Raveena mentioned how at that time, the writers used ask for an apology after publishing some false news. She mentioned that the apology line used be there on the last line of some other issue of the same magazine, and that fell on no one’s notice. Raveena concluded:

“There were so many untrue articles put out because some hero went and said, ‘Acha, uske bare me aab aisa likh do…’ and it would be the last word. And if there would be an apology, that would be on the last line of some other issues of the magazine, it would be written ‘the story carried earlier ultimately proved not to be true’. And who will read that then? At that time the screaming headlines already made the news, right?”
