Veteran actor Annu Kapoor was admitted in Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital last month on January 26 after he complained chest pain. He was discharged a few days later after his condition improved. Not much was known about his exact ailment though. But the 66-year-old actor has now revealed that he had a heart attack.
Annu Kapoor reveals he had a heart attack, says, “I am getting better”
In a chat with Hindustan Times at a literature festival in Delhi, Kapoor said, “It was a heart attack. I am getting better, and now on the road to recovery. Things are looking better.”
Kapoor will next be seen in the role of the political leader and social worker Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya in the latter’s biopic. The veteran actor recently gave the mahurat shot for the film.
When Kapoor was asked the reason for returning to work and other commitments so soon after getting discharged from the hospital, he told the same publication, “A sense of responsibility. Yes, health is equally important, but also because we are one of those who have struggled and gotten ahead in life. Therefore, work also is an essential part and reason for me to be back. For example, I have a weekly column I write for a newspaper. I know that is my responsibility. Similarly goes for my other commitments. If every person in this country has that sense of responsibility, then no other country will be better than ours.”
Kapoor was also asked about the difficulty of playing a real historical character like Upadhyaya. He said, “Meri liye kabhi koi cheez asaan rahi nahi. Jab main Antakshri host karta tha, voh bhi asaan nahi tha” (Nothing has been easy for me. When I was the host of the TV show Antakshari, even that wasn’t easy for me).”
Apart from this film, Kapoor will also be returning as Ayushmann Khurrana’s father in Dream Girl 2, which will be releasing in theatres on July 7.
