As China officially lifted its ban on Marvel, the studio’s major superhero tentpoles Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania have finally secured a release date, ending the three-and-a-half-year ban.

Black Panther 2 and Ant-Man 3 finalize February release dates as China lifts ban on Marvel

As reported by Variety, Black Panther 2, which was released worldwide in last November, will open in China on February 7. Shortly after, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will be released on February 17, the same day the sequel opens everywhere else. There were a good number of Marvel’s Phase 4 releases which were put on the blacklist by China.

The long list of Marvel titles that were blocked from release in China in past months includes Black Widow, Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. Meanwhile, besides Marvel, China denied releases for many Disney features as well.

Recently, China’s Film Bureau granted James Cameron’s magnum opus Avatar: The Way of Water a day-and-date release with the U.S. in December. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the film later received permission to continue screening for an additional month, meaning its run will extend into China’s Lunar New Year holiday, which is typically reserved only for local film releases.
