It’s a 50 day run for Ved in theatres. The Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh starrer romantic drama was the last release of 2022 and while in the Marathi region there was good awareness around the film, not much was being heard and spoken about it beyond that. It seemed like a good Marathi film with a known star cast arriving in theatres but no one really predicted that this one would turn out to be a major blockbuster.
Well, this is what has happened indeed with Ved, which also marked the directorial debut of Riteish Deshmukh, emerging as the second highest grosser ever in the history of Marathi cinema after Sairat. In fact, when the collections were super solid for the first two weeks with hardly any fall then at one point in time it had seemed that even Rs 70 crores would be in reach and Ved will challenge Sairat. While that hasn’t happened, the film has collected around Rs 61 crores already and that’s a massive number if one looks at how some of the biggest Marathi films typically collect between Rs 20-30 crores at maximum and are termed as major hits and superhits.
The film is now playing at a reduced count of screens but still the occupancy is better than many other new Marathi films that have released in the last 7 weeks. This is the eighth week in the running for Ved and while the collections have slowed down immensely, it may still go on to play in some theatres in the interiors for a couple of more weeks.
