Cirkus is finding it tough at the box office in India as, despite the Christmas Holiday period, the film has failed to show any sort of jump in its business on Saturday. According to early estimates, Cirkus is looking to collect in the range of Rs 6.50 to 7.25 crores on its second day, taking the total collections to Rs 13.25 crores. For those unaware, the Rohit Shetty comedy collected Rs 6.50 crore on its opening day.
The national multiplex chains have shown a nominal growth of 10 percent on the second day until the evening shows whereas the mass areas have already started to show a drop in collections. The film is rejected by the audience as that’s what the trend indicates and it won’t be surprising if it fails to even get the benefit of Christmas holiday on Sunday.
Be it mass belts or the multiplexes, the performance of Cirkus is way below the mark. Ideally speaking, the two-day total of Cirkus is less than what the film should have earned on its opening day, as given the combination of Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh, the film at worst should have clocked an opening of Rs 15 crore.
The hold on Monday will indicate where Cirkus lands in the long run, but it’s safe to assume that the three key festivals – Eid, Diwali & Christmas – have been disastrous for the Hindi film industry with the release of films like Heropanti 2, Runway 34, Thank God, Ram Setu and Cirkus on these lucrative weekends.
