We have seen him in The Bride of Habaek and we have loved him in All of Us Are Dead. This young actor needs no introduction when it comes to his acting credits. Yoon Chan Young is one of the most promising rising actors in the K-drama industry. He started as a child artist and he has now secured a lead role in the thriller comedy K-drama Delivery Man. Yoon Chan Young stars as Seo Young Min, a young boy who gives ghosts rides in his taxi and helps them attain salvation. Let’s find out how the drama fared in its premiere week.

Delivery Man Review: Yoon Chan Young and Minah help ghosts attain salvation with a blend of humour and intrigue

Delivery Man tells the story of a young boy named Seo Young Min who runs a taxi service to make his ends meet. He lives with his grandmother, and is also under a debt. But he still has a positive outlook towards life. One day, after dropping some clients to their destination, he sees a woman Kang Ji Hyun (Girl’s Day member Minah) in the backseat. She disappears but comes back again. Turns out she is a ghost. This ghost has no recollection of her past. Due to some reason, she cannot go a few measures out of the taxi. Young Min is initially scared of her and also reluctant to help a ghost but he eventually gives in. The woman ghost convinces him to help out other ghosts in fulfilling their last wishes. The second episode of the drama gives us a good sneak peek into his charitable skills. As the story progresses, we find out that Young Min’s mother was killed in a hit and run. The culprit is still not caught, and the police are still working on the case. Towards the end of episode two of Delivery Man, Young Min sees that Ji Hyun has his mother’s hairband on her wrist. Young Min is surprised, and the episode ends with his question.

If you’re looking for a drama which gives you a good thriller story without weighing too much on you, then Delivery Man is a good pick. Like a typical K-drama which has its roots in the past and blooms to a thrilling story-line in the present, Delivery Man serves a good mix of emotion, comedy and thrill.

Yoon Chan Young as Seo Young Min is our regular male lead who is working an honest job to make his ends meet. He has his struggles to face, but he chooses to have a positive outlook. Despite him running in debt, he still chooses to help the ghosts out without expecting much in return. Kim Min Seok as doctor Do Kyu Jin is a diligent and level-headed doctor who has an amicable bond with Young Min. He is a good colleague who looks after his co-workers and maintains his cool in stressful situations.

Young Min and the woman ghost Kang Ji Hyun are a quirky pair. She always finds a way to boss him around, and he always plays along her plan. The teaser for next week’s episodes showed the two kissing. There is certainly a chemistry between our leads and their banter is quite fun to watch. But the kiss takes the narrative to a slightly different path. In the story so far, we also see that the woman ghost finds Young Min’s taxi’s number somewhat familiar. But since she has no recollection of the past, it will be a while until we find out the connection between the two.

Overall, Delivery Man has given a fair idea as to how the story would pan out right in its premiere. There will be shorter stories spread throughout the drama where Young Min helps out different ghost passengers attain salvation. These stories serve a purpose to let us know more about the characters, and also show how death affects the people. There are honest people who mourn the death of their loved ones, but there are also some rotten apples who would not leave a chance to use someone’s death to their benefit. The male lead Young Min already is like an open book, but there will surely be something to uncover about him as the story progresses. Meanwhile, the mystery behind Young Min’s mother’s death and Ji Hyun’s death will also come to light as the clues finally surface. No K-drama of this caliber is complete without layers, and they are already starting to show themselves. With the police investigation, the frequent visits to the ER headed by Kyu Jin, and also the stories of different ghost passengers, Delivery Man promises to drive away your mid-week blues with a refreshing story.

Despite the obvious predictability of the show, the K-drama manages to keep the audience hooked to the screen with a delightful blend of humor and emotions and an intriguing storyline.
