Disney’s live-action adaptation of the classic fairytale The Little Mermaid is set to make a splash in theatres nationwide on May 26, 2023. Helmed by visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall, the movie will feature a star-studded cast. While the release is around the corner, fans of Disney are in for a treat with a new behind-the-scenes look at the film. Disney has released a video showcasing the cast’s journey from strangers to a family while filming the highly anticipated movie.

Halle Bailey, best known for her role in the TV series grown-ish, will play the role of Ariel, the curious and adventurous mermaid who longs to explore the world beyond the sea. Jonah Hauer-King will play the role of Prince Eric, the human who catches Ariel’s eye. The movie will also feature several acclaimed actors and actresses in supporting roles.

Daveed Diggs, who won a Tony Award for his performance in the musical Hamilton, will lend his voice to Sebastian, the red crab and advisor to King Triton. Awkwafina, who starred in Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon, will voice the character of Scuttle, the eccentric seagull.

Jacob Tremblay, who starred in the Pixar film Luca, will lend his voice to Flounder, Ariel’s best friend. Noma Dumezweni, known for her role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will play The Queen, while Art Malik will play Sir Grimsby. The legendary Javier Bardem will portray King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy will bring the villainous sea witch Ursula to life.

The movie promises to be a visual spectacle, with Marshall at the helm. He is known for directing movies like Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Mary Poppins Returns, and is expected to bring his signature style and creativity to The Little Mermaid.
