After 15 August, Madhuri Dixit Nene’s next Marathi film as a producer titled Panchak is getting ready for release. But before that happens, it has been selected in the competition section at the ongoing Pune International Film Festival (PIFF). The cast of the film includes known names like Addinath Kothare, Tejashri Pradhan, Nandita Patkar, Anand Ingle and Bharati Acharekar.

Panchak is directed by Jayant Jathar and Rahul Awate. It is a big thing for Awate, who has also written the film, to get Madhuri on board as the producer. Sharing his experience with her, he told Bollywood Hungama exclusively, “We all know her as a great actress, dancer and judge on reality shows. But I was surprised to discover her vision as a producer. This is just her second film as a producer. The first one (15 August) released on Netflix. But when she heard the script of Panchak, she immediately decided that this has to be a theatrical release.”
Panchak is a black comedy that deals with the fear of death. Awate said that despite the unconventional subject, Madhuri’s decision of releasing the film in theatres didn’t change even after the pandemic (the film was announced pre-pandemic) when OTT had penetrated so much into the Indian market.
“Madhuri’s vision was clear and that did not change post pandemic,” said the filmmaker. “When films are struggling to get the audiences to the theatres, she feels that this film would definitely get the audience’s attention because of its relatability and (the) roller coaster ride (it provides). And that gives me a lot of confidence and satisfaction as a filmmaker.”
Sharing more about the qualities of Madhuri, Awate added, “Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. That’s what I learned from Madhuri Dixit Nene during this whole journey of Panchak. She gives you space as an artist but also motivates you to give your best.”
Awate was earlier on the project only as the writer. But his involvement with the film during the shoot ensured that he was given the credit of co-director along with Jayant Jathar. Awate told us that it was Jathar’s suggestion.
