In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, when Rituparna Sengupta was asked about how she felt when a lot of her films got stalled, the actress replied, “That actually pained me a lot and it still pains me and that is my perfect regret if you ask me.”
Talking about her film Saab Chai Paani, she said, “A lot of movies which I did not see the light of the day. On was definitely Manish Gupta’s film Saab Chai Paani where me, Sonu Sood, Om Puri Ji was there and it was such a great subject. We finished the film also but something happened with the producer, there was some unban between the producer and I don’t know the internal problem. So my film suffered, my performance was not out there to be watched. So I still feel sad about it.”
She also spoke about Ajay Verma helmed film SRK. Sengupta said, “There was also a Warner Brothers film of Ajay Verma which was titled as SRK, it is like a remake of very important south Indian film, and it did very well in south India. It was a Malayalam film and the whole story was taken and converted. It had me, Vinay Pathak Ji, then Dilip Prabhavalkar and a very very interesting cast and the most important thing was the music was by Ilaiyaraaja ji. That was like a dream come true of any actor to work with such personalities and Ajay did such great work in the film. Everything was aid and done. The trailers were cut, the posters were done and the PVR cinema was doing some promotion. Then suddenly I don’t know what went wrong with the executive producer of the film and Warner Brothers. They suddenly thought of not doing anything with the film anymore.”
Sengupta made her acting debut in the Bengali film industry with the film Shwet Patharer Thala in 1992. She had since then acted in several films, including Bollywood films such as Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh and Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji. She has won several awards for her performances, including five BFJA Awards and a National Film Award. Apart from acting, Sengupta has also produced films such as Dahan and Mukti.
