The month of March came and went in a jiffy but it did not fail to impress with its varied slew of Korean music releases. March saw long awaited comebacks by TWICE, EXO KAI, CRAVITY, BOBBY, and also promising solo debuts by BTS’ Jimin and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo. From R&B to cinematic ballads to funk pop songs, March 2023 had it all when it came to K-pop music. Let’s take a look at some of the memorable releases of the month!

OnlyOneOf – SEOUL DRIFT
OnlyOneOf channels their punk rock avatar with their new song ‘Seoul Drift’. The boy group tapped into the energies of hip hop and rap as they croon to the energetic beats.

SHINee’s ONEW – O (CIRCLE)
If you’re looking for some soothing music to get by with your day, then look no further. SHINee’s Onew brings forth his musical best once again with his latest solo track ‘Circle’. The cinematic ballad composition flows smoothly through the reverberating bass and synth beats.

CRAVITY – GROOVY
Trust CRAVITY to deliver to what they promise with each comeback. Their latest song is titled ‘Groovy’ and the song is exactly that! The funky retro beats peppered throughout the track bring out a vibrant energy in the composition. The song is a banger from start to finish.

CHERRY BULLET – P.O.W. (Play on the World)
Cherry Bullet’s latest track starts on a powerful note. The throbbing progression to the chorus sets up the stage for a wonderful listening experience. The girls channel their best into the track as they sing about taking on the world.

TWICE – SET ME FREE
TWICE turned heads once again with their latest track ‘Set Me Free’. The song is a sultry number from start to end. The quintets belts out melodious lyrics as they sing to the feelings of a heady romance.

PIXY – KARMA
PIXY’s latest track ‘Karma’ is an effortless gothic-inspired track. The visuals in the music video mirror the danger-laced lyrics beautifully. The composition of ‘Karma’ comes together seamlessly as the synth and percussions take turn in accentuating the emotions of the track.

EXO’s KAI – ROVER
The song might be a Korean remake of an English track, but Kai brings in his own charm which sets his latest track ‘Rover’ apart. The track employs moombahton beats and sports a catchy chorus which will immediately become an earworm!

iKON’s BOBBY – CHERRY BLOSSOM
Bobby’s new song ‘Cherry Blossom’ is a wonderful ballad with a touch of sadness. The song starts with foot thumping string instruments and progresses to a bass-beat bridge which paves the way for a climactic chorus. Bobby’s iconic singing style makes a delightful comeback with ‘Cherry Blossom’.

BTS’ JIMIN – LIKE CRAZY
BTS Jimin’s solo debut was one of the most anticipated releases of March 2023. The smooth dancer and singer showed his prowess with his solo EP ‘Face’. The title track ‘Like Crazy’ serves as a perfect representation of the artist’s dance and vocal skills. The song also has English version. The inspiration behind the song comes from one of Jimin’s favorite films, ‘Like Crazy.’ Like the story in the movie, the song depicts relatable feelings of pain, loss and struggles trying hard not to face the heartbreaking reality. The lyrics sing about the painful feeling and losing oneself while searching for the loved one in a dream but still, wanting to stay in the dream forever. The sound of upbeat melody juxtaposed with Jimin’s poignant voice gives the song an intriguing balance with the lyrics that sings emptiness. The music video also visualizes such struggles with hazy looks and dazed expressions as if wandering in a dream.

BLACKPINK’s JISOO – FLOWER
The solo debuts of all BlackPink members are finally complete with Jisoo releasing her first solo song. The song is titled ‘Flower’ and is anything but tenacious. Jisoo’s solo debut song ‘Flower’ employs minimal and raw instruments to compliment her vocals beautifully. The music video is without any flashy presentations and sports a calmer yet vivacious visual story throughout which reflect Jisoo and her artistic approach well.
