From NewJeans to LE SSERAFIM, TNX to Tempest – 10 glorious K-pop debut groups of 2022

1. NMIXX – O.O
NMIXX is one of the most promising rookies of 2022. The girl group from JYP Entertainment made several heads turn with their dystopian music video and clean choreography. Their debut song ‘O.O’ is a mishmash of a few genres, and that produces a catchy song. There is dance-pop along with a segue into a pop-rock sequence. The song is perfect for a dance party or a jam session with friends.

2. KEP1ER – WA DA DA
A debut that is as unique as the group name, Kep1er gave the fans a wonderful treat with ‘Wa Da Da’. The song is a stunning mix of electro-pop and synth. The sweet vocals of the members shine in contrast to the stretchy beats of ‘Wa Da Da’.
3. LE SSERAFIM – FEARLESS
LE SSERAFIM’s debut has been one of the most awaited debuts of 2022. Hailing from the same labels as juggernauts BTS and TXT, Le Sserafim is also the first girl group under HYBE. Their debut song ‘Fearless’ is quite sultry. Each member’s vocals accentuate the R&B and alternative pop tunes running throughout the song. The chorus features a grand feature as the instruments take a back seat, leaving room for the members to showcase their bass tones.
4. NEWJEANS – ATTENTION
HYBE Labels debuted another girl group in 2022 named ‘NewJeans’. In their debut music song ‘Attention’, NewJeans channels Y2K aesthetic as they dance to alternative pop beats. The song is not flashy but it is still enjoyable to watch. The young girls frolic around their rooms and dance around football courts in the music video. The song plays on a medium register and leaves ample room for the girls to showcase their vocal skills. The chorus gives a peek into their low-register singing as well. The group begins the 5th generation of K-pop.
5. BLANK2Y – THUMBS UP
BLANK2Y made a stunning debut with ‘Thumbs Up’. The song starts off on a powerful note and keeps the tempo steady as the group comes to the fore dancing to the stretched-out techno and hip-hop beats. The song is not very different from the ones in its genre, but what sets it apart is the execution. Despite being a hip-hop song, the group does not resort to sudden shouting or thumps in the track, maintaining the speed and tempo of the song until the very end.
6. FIFTY FIFTY – HIGHER
FIFTY FIFTY resort to smooth R&B beats for their debut song ‘Higher’. The quartet complements each other’s singing. Despite having two vocalists and two rappers, the members do not lose out on their individuality. The song has room for each member to shine and showcase their solo singing capabilities. ‘Higher’ starts with low guitar strums and progresses to a dulcet chorus. The tone is stable throughout the song without any surprising high notes or falsettos.
7. TEMPEST – BAD NEWS
‘Bad News’ is a rather upbeat track. Tempest presents vibrant visuals and a funky number with ‘Bad News’ as they announce their arrival in the music industry and warn the naysayers. The group makes a smooth swerve with the song as they dance around places proclaiming their uniqueness. ‘Bad News’ is a fun dance-pop number with the classic touch of ample rap verses.
8. TAN – DU DU DU
TAN’s debut with ‘Du Du Du’ is quite a surprise for the song begins with an acapella and makes way for sultry RnB beats. The song reminds one of the party pop numbers from the 2010s era in K-pop. The song is a smooth mix of vocals, rap, and acapella presenting a vibrancy to the music scale. As the members take turns in taking the song ahead verse by verse, the music accentuates with deep and mellow registers.
9. LAPILLUS – HIT YA!
Lapillus ventured into the grunge pop genre with their debut track ‘Hit Ya!’. The girl group makes complete use of their dancing skills in the music video to showcase their prowess. The song is a heady mix of electronica and synth bass. As the song progresses, the music dips to give space for the girls to showcase their vocal timbre.
10. TNX – MOVE
TNX’s debut song ‘Move’ is yet another offering from the hip-hop genre. The group sticks to the formula of hip-hop and anthem-like beats in their debut song ‘Move’.
