The  23rd edition of the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards will be taking place this year on May 26 and 27 at the Yas Islands in Abu Dhabi. The awards were founded in the year 2000. IIFA aims to celebrate Bollywood internationally.

IIFA 2023 to continue with the Green Carpet tradition

In the 2007 edition of the awards, IIFA decided to come up with the concept of having a Green Carpet instead of the red one, which is generally seen in all awards shows and festivals. The reason for this is to give a message for the conservation of environment and sustainability. The same tradition of Green Carpet will be continued this year too. Interestingly, this year, the Oscars also did away with the traditional red carpet and made way for a champagne coloured carpet.

Sharing more about the initiative, an official statement from IIFA said, “Proud to be leaders of the Industry, IIFA has always put the environmental agenda at the realm of IIFA Weekend & Awards in 2007 when they launched the concept ‘Greening The IIFA’s’ and came up with the idea of symbolizing this idea with Bright Green Carpets instead of traditional red ones.”

The statement added, “With stars from Sienna Miller, Colin Firth, Amitabh Bachchan to Priyanka Chopra, IIFA has done proud to make a difference and continues to thrive doing so in advocating that we can all make a difference to our home, our world. IIFA has always helped create clever messaging on the environment that the stars and celebrities involved would convey to the audiences and fans globally and today with the power of celebrity following, it’s worked.”
