South Korean management label YG Entertainment announced that all the members of pop band iKON and actor Kang Dong Won have decided to end their respective contracts. According to Korean tabloid Soompi, on December 30, the agency issued official statement announcing the artists’ departure from the agency.
iKON members and Kang Dong Won end contract with YG Entertainment
“We are informing you that after a long discussion with the iKON members (Kim Jinhwan, Bobby, Song Yunhyeong, Goo Junhoe, Kim Donghyuk, and Jung Chanwoo) about their future activities, out of respect for each other’s opinions, we agreed to end our exclusive contract following the expiration of their contract period.,” the agency wrote in the statement issued for announcing the K-pop group members’ exit.
They further added, “The six members of iKON will of course be continuing their activities as the group “iKON” in the future, and we are also letting you know that they will continue to communicate with iKONIC [iKON’s fans] through their official social media accounts, including their official fan community Weverse, just as they are now. We sincerely thank iKON, who has been with us as one of our agency’s artists up until now.”
“We are looking forward to their future activities in a wide variety of fields, and we will be cheering them on,” they continued. “Additionally, we also thank the iKONIC who were together with us for iKON’s journey. We ask that you continue to give the members your unchanging interest and encouragement as they prepare for a new start.”
Meanwhile, the same day, YG also announced Kang Dong Won’s exit from the agency by writing, “After discussing the matter, YG Entertainment and actor Kang Dong Won have decided to end our management [of his activities]. We would like to sincerely thank and cheer on actor Kang Dong Won, who was with us for a long time.”
The agency further added, “We would also like to thank all of the fans who gave their love to Kang Dong Won, and we ask that you continue to give him your unchanging interest and support.”
iKON first debuted as a seven-member group under YG Entertainment in 2015. Four years later, the group’s then-leader B.I left both the band and the agency. Meanwhile, Kang Dong Won signed with the label in January 2016.
