Janhvi Kapoor talks about her late mother Sridevi, “I’ve grown up learning from her taste in films” : Bollywood News

Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor, in a latest interview, has spoken about her late actor-mother Sridevi. The young actress also said that she doesn’t like when she is put in a box and how she is willing to play a wide range of characters.

Janhvi was reminded at the India Today Conclave that her mother acted in Lamhe and that she was questioned for the choice. Yash Chopra’s film Lamhe didn’t do well at the box office. She was asked if, like her mother, she took career decisions for herself, to which she said, “She is my mom, and I’ve grown up hearing what her outlook on cinema is, learning from her taste in films, her take on her art…”

She further added, “Inherently I’ve imbibed some aspects of that. A lot of it also has to do with the fact that I don’t like being put in a box. I like to take the route that’s less predictable and learn from it. It would come very naturally for me to do the glamorous roles, where I can come in and do two-three comedy scenes and dance. And I’m dying to do those kind of roles, because I think it’s a lot of fun, and it gains a lot of popularity among the masses. But that’s what everybody expected me to do, so I felt the need to do the complete opposite for a while, and now I’m thinking.”

In an old interview with Karan Johar, Yash Chopra had lauded Sridevi for her professionalism. He had said, “At that time, I thought she is so professional. Such a wonderful artist. At that moment, she forgot everything. She did a wonderful scene. I understood then that is (the) reason, the secret for her success.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Janhvi was last seen in film Mili. She will be next seen in Bawaal opposite Varun Dhawan and Mr. and Mrs. Maahi in which she co-stars with Rajkummar Rao. Janhvi has also announced that she will be making her Telugu debut with Jr. NTR.
