Kapil Sharma reveals his battle with depression, opens up about having suicidal thoughts
In a promotional interview with Aaj Tak for his upcoming film, Zwigato, Kapil Sharma for the first time ever, talked about a dark phase in his life, when he had been suffering from depression. Kapil revealed he began suffering from bouts of anxiety and depression back in 2017, after his first film debut, Firangi flunked at the box office. He also explained that he started having frequent suicidal thoughts, leading him to have the controversial fallout with his friend and fellow comedian, Sunil Grover. Elaborating on the phase, Kapil mentioned:
“In that phase, I thought about committing suicide. I thought there is nobody with whom I can share what I feel. The place where I come from, mental health is not something that is discussed. I don’t think this was the first time that I went through this phase. Maybe, during childhood, I must have felt low, but nobody would have noticed.”
Kapil recollects his fight back from depression, calls it a learning experience
Well, as they say, testing times are short-lived and the beam of bright sunshine always peeps out. Kapil, too, fought out of his depressive thoughts and gradually began to see the silver lining from the clouds of anxiety. Recalling his route to recovery, Kapil highlights that it was nothing less than a learning experience for him, and in fact, the phase helped him to filter out the unnecessary things in his life. In his words:
“But after you go through such a phase, you start to take notice of things going around you. Your eyes open up. If an artist is sensitive, it doesn’t mean that he is stupid. Now that I think about it, I think it was a good phase, only because life got filtered after that. If that phase didn’t come, I would not have learnt to enjoy small things in life.”

You are also not in a situation to live a normal life where you can go out, sit on the beach and look at the sea. You live in a two-room flat, and when it’s dark outside by evening, I cannot explain how bad the feeling is in that situation.”
