Following years of wait, Chinese-born popstar Jackson Wang performed in India for the very first time at the upcoming Lollapalooza India festival. The two-day festival had an array of the line up which included international and homegrown artists. Jackson Wang brought a glimpse of his Magic Man world tour to India and enamoured the audience.

The 28-year-old musician, also known as a rapper in the popular K-pop group GOT7, has often mentioned his love for India and wanted to perform here. The singer performed on Sunday night in Mumbai, co-produced and promoted by BookMyShow. The two festival was held at the Mahalaxmi Race Course.

Bollywood Hungama was in attendance and witnessed fans chanting and all charged up for him. Even before his 7:30 pm set at Lollapalooza India, fans had begun to camp near the stage as early as 1:30 pm in the afternoon. Though there were two female artists, Raveena and Kayan, scheduled to perform before him, the fans ensured the female stars were hyped enough during their performances too. The fans (both GOT7 known as Ahgase/IGOT7 & Jackson’s fans called Jackies) were in attendance with fan projects like posters, memes, and GOT7’s lightsticks Ahgabong. They were chanting Jackson’s name, singing and just ready to witness him.

Dressed in all black with face paint depicting the ‘Cruel’ theme of Magic Man, Jackson Wang opened his show with a performance on ‘100 Ways’, followed by a slew of his hit tracks from the album including ‘Go Ghost’, ‘Champagne Cool’, ‘Dopamine’, ‘Cruel’ & many more songs. He was accompanied by his team of dancers who were stunning and added so much strength to his performance.

He closed his 1-hour set, which was reduced by 10 minutes, with his peppy dance number ‘Blow’. However, Jackson didn’t even give a second for the audience to get bored. He performed hard-core choreographies, with a storyboard that flowed seamlessly with crisp choreographies from the very first track to the last song.

Addressing the massive crowd with ‘Namaste’ who waited for Jackson Wang for several years, he said that he has always wanted to visit India and that he loves watching Bollywood movies. “I have been wanting to come to India forever, I was always asking ‘When can I go? When can I go?’ It’s been four to five years. I love you guys. I feel blessed to be a part of this tonight. Let’s enjoy tonight like there’s no tomorrow.”

It felt like a huge Asian superstar was testing the waters before bringing his 3-hour concert to India. The audience came in massive numbers and if this is any indication, just like Jackson Wang hopes, the Magic Man tour may come to the country. If this is any indication, it opens doors for so many Asian artists to explore India as a concert market post-pandemic.
