The most entertaining moments, however, come from stand-up comedian Harsh Gujral. His effortless delivery and impeccable comic timing elevate the humour, especially in scenes where he roasts Arjun Kapoor, making for some of the film’s most enjoyable moments. Dino Morea makes a charming special appearance as Antara’s suave brother. While this rom-com treads familiar ground with a predictable love story, it has its moments that entertain and elicit laughter.

All in all, it’s pretty much a fun family entertainer (thanks to Puja Films for bringing back a 2000s style caper) and without giving away too much, let’s just say that debating and fighting over a man may be regressive and it is through this plotline that Mudassar cements the spirit of friendship and sisterhood. He resorts to a whole lot of mess and chaos to prove his point but, by and large, it almost works, because what’s a vanilla ice-cream scoop without a little bit of colourful sprinkles on the top?

The film does tap into nostalgia with elements like Shakti Kapoor’s signature “Ow,” 80s-style jokes about a doctor mispronouncing names, and the classic trope of temporary memory loss. The soundtrack, featuring popular yesteryear songs, also adds to the retro charm. Some meta-humour, like references to Arjun’s Danger Lanka and Harsh being called a “Sasta Vicky Kaushal,” is genuinely clever. While Mere Husband Ki Biwi doesn’t offer anything particularly new, it still works as a light-hearted watch, best enjoyed with friends and family.

Talking about the performances, Arjun Kapoor makes the character of Ankur relatable and hits the chords with his nuanced act. Rakul Preet and Bhumi hit the ball out of the park with their meaty characters. Harsh Gujral impresses with his bang-on comic timing with abled support by Shakti Kapoor and other veterans. On the whole, Mere Husband Ki Biwi is expected to find an audience for its relatability and storytelling.

Mere Husband Ki Biwi is a lavish disappointment. Despite having its moments, the film suffers from shoddy execution, lack of emotional depth and a safe climax. A lot more was expected considering Mudassar is the director. The actors save the show.
