The trailer of Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway opens with an introduction of a happy family who has moved to Norway from Kolkata. Things are going well for Mr and Mrs Chatterjee [played by Anirban Bhattacharya and Rani Mukerji, respectively] and their two kids until Norwegian Child Welfare Services take the kids away from their parents, citing negligence and Mrs Chatterjee’s “unstable mind” as reasons.
The trailer also shows how cultural differences, such as the parents feeding the children using their hands, become a denominator in the state taking away the kids’ custody. As the court declares that the children will be “wards of the state” till they turn 18, the trailer shows the anguish of Rani Mukerji’s character and how she takes on an entire system to get her children back, even as her husband turns his back on her.
