Mumtaz was frequently associated with a number of her co-stars during her active career in the 1960s and 1970s. Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, and others were among them. Mumtaz in a recent interview explained that due to Jeetendra’s then-girlfriend and current wife Shobha Kapoor, connecting with him was incredibly difficult.
Mumtaz reveals why it was difficult to tune with Jeetendra; says, “Nobody could flirt with him. His girlfriend Shobha was very possessive about him”
Mumtaz recently discussed Shobha in a new interview, describing how possessive of Jeetendra she would be. Speaking to Times of India, she said, “Jeetendra ke saath tuning hona mushkil tha (It was difficult to get the tune right with Jeetendra). Nobody could flirt with him. His girlfriend Shobha (Jeetendra’s wife now) was very possessive about him. She was determined to marry him. But again, as usual, he also was very fond of me. But the heroines were not fond of me. But yet I remained chirpy.”
Mumtaz also discussed Rajesh Khanna and his separation from Anju Mahendroo, she said, “I was astonished. She looked after Rajesh Khanna so well. She truly cared for him. She even looked after his khaana-peena with such sophistication. Mayur and I used to visit Rajesh Khanna and have dinner and drinks with both of them. I hadn’t even dreamt that they would split. How can you end a relationship with someone like her in just one day? It was not right on his part to do that. If you are not getting along with anybody, you need to call that person, sit down with him/her and inform that person.”
On personal front, Mumtaz married businessman Mayur Madhvani in 1974 without being hitched to any of her co-stars in the industry, and the two are now proud parents of two kids.
In terms of her career, Mumtaz began performing when she was just 11 years old. After making her cinematic debut in Sone Ki Chidiya, she quickly rose to fame. Since then, she has starred in a series of classic films including Bandhan, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Sachaa Jhutha, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, and many more.
