South Korean pop group PENTAGON’s member Hongseok will reportedly get an early discharge from his military service due to health concerns. According to Korean tabloid Soompi, Hongseok enlisted in the military in May, and his agency announced his early discharge on December 26. The artist’s agency announced the news in a statement writing, “PENTAGON member Hongseok was classified for the Wartime Labor Service and was medically discharged from his military service.”

The agency continued, “Hongseok has been receiving continuous treatment and counseling during his military service due to symptoms of depression and panic disorder with agoraphobia that he has been suffering from since before.”
They added, “However, as his symptoms have worsened, the military has decided that it is not possible for him to simultaneously continue military life and treatment, so he has been medically discharged.
“We apologize for causing concern due to the sudden news, and we will continue to do our best for Hongseok to focus on treatment.” the agency concluded. Earlier this year, Hongseok enlisted as an active-duty soldier on May 3 and was scheduled to be discharged in November 2023.
