Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ launched her debut single, ‘In My City’ in 2012, and 2013 saw the release of ‘Exotic’, a song she co-wrote with Pitbull, a US rapper and singer. She quickly abandoned her musical endeavours, however, in order to concentrate on her Hollywood career.

In her conversation with Film Companion, Priyanka discussed her “two-second music career” and said she wouldn’t want to feel left out if everyone had an opinion on it. Priyanka debuted in Hollywood as an actor in the starring position of the television series Quantico.

Priyanka claimed that after spending her whole 20s working nonstop, she relished the freedom that her brief time as a popstar provided, particularly since it took place in the US, where she was still largely anonymous. She remarked that she genuinely admired musicians since they created something from nothing, as opposed to actors who constantly leaned on the words and direction of others. “So, when I started doing music, I was in the room with all these people that I had grown up admiring, like will.i.am, Pitbull and RedOne… I was spinning, and I was suddenly doing stuff that I liked.”

Priyanka said, “I didn’t think it was going to be long term.” She further added, “I was enjoying it too much to give it up,” she said. Asked how she’s able to laugh about it now, Priyanka added, “In my 22-year career, it was two seconds only. There are literally four singles, guys. I have 40 in the laptop though, which will never be heard… I come from a place of honesty. I just think it’s easier to be authentic and transparent. Y’all are talking about it anyway, so I might as well join the conversation. Why are you leaving me out? Tell me what you really feel, so we can all talk about it.”

On the work front, Priyanka has Citadel. It is produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO and showrunner David Weil. Alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, the 6-episode series features Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville in pivotal roles. She also has Love Again and Heads of State in her pipeline.
