RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ created history by winning the Best Original Song Oscar for the role it played in the SS Rajamouli-directed historical action movie. The award was presented at the ceremony to the song’s lyricist and composer, Chandrabose and composer MM Keeravaani.

RRR star Ram Charan had recently expressed his desire to perform on the Academy Award–winning song ‘Naatu Naatu’ during the 95th edition of the Oscars at the India Today Conclave 2023. He said, “I was 100 percent ready to get that call but I truly don’t know what happened. But let’s not talk about it because the troupe who did it there, they were fantastic and they did a better job than us.”

Ram Charan, who has performed on ‘Naatu Naatu’ multiple times on various stages, also shared his thoughts on it during the event. The superstar said it was now time to unwind and enjoy seeing someone else represent India with the song. Ram said, “I feel it is no longer our song, it is India’s song. It’s the people who have taken us to the carpet.”

The actor discussed his viewpoint on winning the Oscar, stating that while it is a noteworthy accomplishment, the appreciation of the viewers is the greatest reward. Nothing, in his opinion, comes close to the thrill of experiencing a performance in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The love and support of the Indian public are the most important awards, he said at the conclave, and everything else is just a bonus. “I was just fortunate to be in the midst of that celebration. That kind of an event, we’ve been seeing it. I was a fanboy of the Academy since I was a kid,” he added.

Ram Charan explained the recent uptick in popularity of South Indian cinema by crediting Rajamouli’s ground-breaking two-part Baahubali film series. Expressing his enduring appreciation for the great filmmaker’s directing aesthetic, which inspires him to strive for excellence, he said, “I like somebody who puts me on my feet… It keeps me up and going. Every time you think, ‘Wow, I have learnt enough and I know it all’, you work with Rajamouli and he will tell you it’s just the beginning. It’s like going back to school. I always learn something new, he always gives the best career hits with every actor, be it Prabhas, Jr NTR or myself.”
