To celebrate the success of Pathaan, lead actors Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, along with director Siddharth Anand, attended a press conference. During the candid chit-chat, Shah Rukh talked about longing to bag an action film after the release of Darr, while speaking about a promise Aditya Chopra had made. However, the promise had a DDLJ connection.

King Khan asserted, “We were shooting for Darr. We used to play scrabble in the night after packing up. It was Adi’s birthday. I was very fond of Adi. He told me, ‘I will make a film,” on his birthday and he asked me – will you do it? I said – I’d love to do it. And he narrated to me some story in which I was an action hero. I listened to his idea and got excited. Then Darr worked out. A year or two later, I was sitting in the Mehboob Studio when he told me that he has a story to narrate.”
He further recalled, “At that time, no one used to offer me action films and I really wanted to be an action hero, honestly. It was my dream to be featured in a typical action hero poster. I wanted to play a character who shoots first and then talks. I really wanted to play an action hero and then he came. I was all excited and keen to listen, and he narrated to me this – ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam’ (title song of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge). I kept listening in the hope that he would soon talk about the action sequence. I thought it would come in the second half. However, there was no action till the end of the film. I was very disappointed He was supposed to make an action film. Then we ended up making DDLJ. He continued making romantic films with me.”
Before concluding, he said, “In fact, 3-4 years back, he narrated an action film to me but did not make it. Later, when he came with Siddharth to narrate the intro scene of Pathaan. I thought he was lying. I really thank him that after 30 years he made this film and he kept the promise he made to me. mai bada khush hu ke Adi ne apna woh wada pura kiya hai aur main isliye bhi khush hu ke maine usko proof kar diya ke mai action bhi kar sakta hu. I hope he takes me in more action films.”
Speaking of Pathaan, the spy-thriller, released on January 25, has broken a bunch of records.
