Renowned actress Vidya Balan has had an incredible journey in the world of entertainment. From her debut in 2005’s Parineeta to her recent roles in Sherni and Jalsa, Balan has established herself as one of the most versatile and talented actors in the industry. However, once upon a time, she was labelled as a “jinx,” and the actress herself has shared this recently.

For the unversed, Vidya was speaking to journalist Faye Dsouza, when she was talking about her journey. During the interaction, Vidya stated that she has a feeling that her mother had a dream of becoming an actress and passed that aspiration on to her. She went on to say that when Tezaab was released and she saw Madhuri dancing to ‘Ek Do Teen,’ Vidya was only eight years old and was captivated by her performance.

While recalling auditioning for the TV shows during her college, the actress asserted, “However, the first show that I was signed for never worked out. That’s when I got Hum Paanch. My parents were okay as they felt that TV was a safer option, and the show was a comedy and a clean family watch.”

She further added, “In retrospect, I feel everything just worked out. After quitting the show, I started doing ad films and that worked in my favour. I think if I hadn’t left the TV, I wouldn’t be doing other things.”

She provided more details and explained that she had been offered a role in a Malayalam movie alongside Mohanlal, but unfortunately, the project was cancelled before it could materialise. In addition, she had been informally approached for several other projects, but once rumours began to spread about the cancelled movie, she was labelled as “jinxed” and missed out on other work opportunities as a result.

The Bhool Bhulaiyaa actress said, “They did not realise that the industry was going through a tough time. I was called jinxed, and because of that, I lost faith in myself. It was a tough time and I faced a lot of rejections. However, since I was still doing ads then, I met Pradeep Sarkar, and the first day he told me I will make a film with you. So there was no question of choosing Parineeta, the film chose me.”
