Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has issued a public apology after making a joke about Joe Biden and the Dalai Lama that sparked outrage among members of the Buddhist community. The controversy began when Ranaut shared an edited photo of the US President’s meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader. For the unversed, A video of the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Buddhist community, has caused controversy after it was shared widely online. The video shows the Dalai Lama kissing a young boy on the lips and asking him to “suck his tongue.”

Despite issuing an apology for his actions, the Dalai Lama faced criticism. Among many others, the Queen actress had also reacted to the incident through an Instagram story. It was an edited photo of Dalai Lama with his tongue out and US President Joe Biden beside him, along with the caption “The Dalai Lama receives a warm welcome at the White House”. Sharing the post, the actress wrote, “Dono ko same bimari hai, definitely dono ki dosti ho sakti hai (Both have the same illness, both can definitely be friends)”.

Now, days after the incident, on April 21, the Panga actress took to her Instagram stories and shared a video of some Buddhists protesting outside her office. In the caption, she wrote, “A group of Buddhist people doing dharma outside my office at Pali Hill. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone, it was a harmless joke about Biden being friends with Dalai Lama, please don’t understand my intentions”, followed by a folded hands emoji.

The Simran actress further added, “I do believe in Buddha’s teachings and his holiness 14th Dalai Lama has spent his whole life in public service, I hold nothing against anyone, don’t stand in the harsh heat, please go home.”

On the work front, Kangana will be seen in the political drama Emergency, which she has directed and produced also under her banner Manikarnika Films.
